WHY  SAVE  LIVES ?

caliphate s

There are plenty of misunderstandings about Islam in the world, some of them are among non-Muslims at times leading to unjustified Islamophobia, sometimes the misunderstandings are among Muslims who do not fully understand their own scriptures (and how many laypeople really understand their scriptures?) that may lead to undue extremism. Extremism leads to Islamophobia, and the more extremism is allowed by Muslims around the world, the more Islamophobia will expand.

There are real Islamic principles in both the Koran and in the Hadiths (Traditions) that lead to real Islamophobia:

Chapter 5, Verse 32 of the Quran, states that “killing an innocent  human being is like killing all humanity” but when we read  the entire verse which states: “whoever kills a person, unless it be for manslaughter or for mischief in the land, it is as though he had killed all men,” this seemingly noble statement about mrder starts to fray around the edges, because mischief includes a long list of activities prohibited for unbelievers. So it is okay according to the Quran to kill anyone who creates mischief in the land ?

Al- Quran 5:32

If any one slew a person - unless it be for murder or for spreading  mischief in the land - it would be as if he slew the whole people: and  if any one saved a life, it would be as if he saved the life of the  whole people.

Despite Islamic protestations to the contrary (and this is where Islam departs from Calmeyer’s demonstrated unconditional respect for life and suspicion of militant dictators like Hitler), the Quran only superficially values life (and only for their own believers). The language, out of context, sounds good, but the context is a reservation of the value of life for believers, while “tolerating the people of the Book” which should include both Jews and Christians as predecessors in Holy Scriptures purported to support Allah.

Al- Quran 2:256

Let there be no compulsion in religion: Truth stands out clear from  Error: whoever rejects evil and believes in God hath grasped the most  trustworthy hand-hold, that never breaks. And God heareth and knoweth  all things.

Al- Quran 6:151

Take not life, which God hath made sacred, except by way of justice  and law: thus doth He command you, that ye may learn wisdom.

It is said that “Muslims ruled Spain for roughly 800 years. During  this time, and up until they were finally forced out, the non-Muslims  there were alive and flourishing. Additionally, Christian and Jewish  minorities have survived in the Muslim lands of the Middle East for  centuries. Countries such as Egypt, Morocco, Palestine, Lebanon, Syria,  and Jordan all have significant Christian and/or Jewish populations. This is not surprising to a Muslim, for his faith prohibits him from  forcing others to see his point of view.”

All this assurance of a peaceful religion is impressive. Unfortunately the above belies the burning of churches and temples all over the Middle East, and the slow migration of nearly all non-Muslims out of those lands even after millenia of hereditary and cultural presence there. It also belies the fact that only a few Muslims speak out against extremism, and even fewer do anything about it.

"Not only did the terrorists hijack planes and destroy life, but they  also hijacked the peaceful religion of Islam and split the brother and  sisterhood of mankind."      (Yusuf Islam)

It is not perhaps active or evil volitional anti-semitism to simply believe that all Jews as Pigs and condemned by their historical disobedience to Hell, that would only count as an observation and as a belief if it were not turned into action by Sharia Law and practice of anti-semitism, which is well-documented everywhere since Mohammed. The Nazis were “inspired” by Islam to exterminate Jews in the camps.

Prophet Muhammad sent a message to the monks of Saint Catherine in Mount Sinai:

"This is a message written by Muhammad ibn Abdullah, as a covenant to those who adopt Christianity, far and near, we are behind them. Verily, I defend them by myself, the servants, the helpers, and my followers,  because Christians are my citizens; and by Allah! I hold out against  anything that displeases them. No compulsion is to be on them. Neither  are their judges to be changed from their jobs, nor their monks from  their monasteries. No one is to destroy a house of their religion, to  damage it, or to carry anything from it to the Muslims' houses. Should  anyone take any of these, he would spoil God's covenant and disobey His  Prophet. Verily, they (Christians) are my allies and have my secure  charter against all that they hate. No one is to force them to travel or to oblige them to fight. The Muslims are to fight for them. If a female Christian is married to a Muslim, this is not to take place without her own wish. She is not to be prevented from going to her church to pray.  Their churches are to be respected. They are neither to be prevented  from repairing them nor the sacredness of their covenants. No one of the nation is to disobey this covenant till the Day of Judgment and the end of the world."

Qur’an 2:61

And humiliation and wretchedness were stamped upon them and  they were visited with wrath from Allah. That was because they disbelieved in Allah’s revelations and slew the prophets  wrongfully. That was for their disobedience and transgression.

The Qur’anic depiction of the Jews their traits as thus characterized being deemed both infallible and timeless highlights,  in verse 2:61 (repeated in verse 3:112), the centrality of the Jews  abasement and humiliation€ť, and being laden with God’s anger, as  elaborated in the corpus of Muslim exegetic literature on Qur’an  2:61, including the hadith and Qur’anic commentaries. The terrifying  rage decreed upon the Jews forever is connected in the hadith and  exegeses to Qur’an 1:7, where Muslims ask Allah to guide them  rightly, not in the path of those who provoke and must bear His  wrath. This verse is in turn linked to Qur’anic verses 5:60, and  5:78, which describe the Jews transformation into apes and swine (5:60), having been “…cursed by the tongue of David, and Jesus,  Mary’s son€ť (5:78). Moreover, forcing Jews, in particular, to pay the Qur’anic poll tax tribute,” (as per verse 9:29) readily, while “being brought low, is consistent with their overall  humiliation and abasement in accord with Qur’an 2:61, and its  directly related verses.                                                                Andrew Bostom, FrontPageMagazine 2008

When you encounter those who deny (the Truth) then strike (their) necks. (Qur’an 47 :4)

So what is a peace-loving person to believe?

Muhammad Sayyid Tantawi wrote these words in his 700 page  treatise rationalizing Muslim Jew hatred, Banu Isra’il fi al-Qur’an  wa al-Sunna [Jews in the Qur’an and the Traditions], originally  published in the late 1960s, and early 1970s, and then re-issued in  1986/87:

[The] Qur’an describes the Jews with their own particular  degenerate characteristics, i.e. killing the prophets of Allah,  corrupting His words by putting them in the wrong places,  consuming the people’s wealth frivolously, refusal to distance  themselves from the evil they do, and other ugly characteristics  caused by their deep-rooted lasciviousness, only a minority of the  Jews keep their word.[A]ll Jews are not the same. The good ones  become Muslims, the bad ones do not. (Qur’an 3:113)

Tantawi was apparently rewarded for this scholarly effort by  being named Grand Imam of Al-Azhar University in 1996, a position he  still holds. These are the expressed, carefully researched€ť views  on Jews held by the nearest Muslim equivalent to a Pope €”the head of  the most prestigious center of Muslim learning in Sunni Islam,  Sunnis representing some 85% of the world’s Muslims. And Sheikh  Tantawi has not mollified such hatemongering beliefs since becoming  the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar as his statements on the Jews as enemies  of Allah, descendants of apes and pigs, the legitimacy  of homicide bombing of Jews, or dialogue€ť with Jews, make clear.                                                                                                                                      Andrew Bostom, FrontPageMagazine 2008

An interesting dialog (debate) is chronicled on a website that seems well worth reading and trying to understand from both points of view. In essence, anti-Semitsm is to be found everywhere in the Qu’ran and the Hadits. On the other side, the inherently inconsistent structure of Muslim scriptures is used as an explanation that it all does not really mean what it says:

That having been said, there is a major flaw in Prof. Mohammed’s arguments.  He constantly refers the anti-Jewish verses in the Qur’an to a Jewish source. This is an established tactic used by antisemites. The Protocols of the Elders of Zion were written by a Christian, Matthieu Golovinski, in French, but attributed to Jews. As Prof. Mohammed is clearly not an antisemite, it would be prudent for him to desist from this kind of reasoning.  According to sacralized Muslim tradition, the Qur’an is a complete text, standing alone, revealed in its entirety to Muhammad by Allah within a period of two decades. And this is how Muslims read it.

If the criticisms of the Jews were the same in the Bible and the Qur’an,  Jews in Muslim lands would never have suffered persecution, often  slavery, deportation, land expropriation, and massacres, resulting from the permanent, uniquely Islamic institutions of jihad and dhimmitude.
